Pycon otto

Florence

6th 9th April 2017

Where

PyCon Italia will be held near the old city centre of Florence, at the Grand Hotel Mediterraneo  (Lungarno del Tempio, 44 - not far from the beautiful Piazza Santa Croce).

How to reach Florence

As the conference will be held near the old city centre, we recommend travelling to the city by train or plane. It is a short walk between most central hotels and the conference location.

If you come by train:

Detrain at the Central Railway Station (Stazione Centrale) Santa Maria Novella. From the station you can reach the hotel on foot (about 25 minutes) or take bus No 14 (ticket: €1,20) and get off at the Grand Hotel Mediterraneo stop in Via Arnolfo (behind the hotel). The Grand Hotel Mediterraneo is at about 150 metres.

If you come by airplane:

The Grand Hotel Mediterraneo is at about 10 km from the airport Florence Peretola (FLR) -also known as Amerigo Vespucci Airport. You can take a shuttle bus from the airport that will bring you to the Central Railway Station Santa Maria Novella. From there, you can take a bus or walk through the beautiful city center (see above for further instructions). Alternatively, you can get a taxi that will bring you directly from the airport to the Grand Hotel Mediterraneo (price: about 20-25€).

The alternative airport is Galileo Galilei - Pisa (PSA), located by the coast, 1 kilometre from Pisa city centre and only 80 kilometres from Florence, with direct access to:

  • Motorways (by Bus): if you decide to travel by bus, the coach transfer service managed by Terravision connects Pisa International Airport to the Central Railway Station "Santa Maria Novella" Mon- Sun. You can buy the tickets at Pisa Airport Information Desk.
  • Railways (by Train): Pisa Airport is Directly Connected to the Italian Railway Network. Direct railway lines connect every day Pisa Airport to Florence.

If you come by car: (not recommended!)

Leave the A1 motorway at the "Firenze Sud" exit. Go straight on until the end of the junction that runs over the river Arno, turn left at the traffic lights and go straight ahead for about 2 km. The Grand Hotel Mediterraneo is on your right. That said, you have some options for parking:

Mediterraneo Hotel Car Park
The Grand Hotel Mediterraneo has a private garage which ensures an easy and safe parking for your car. It costs €15 per day and you need to reserve it with the hotel staff.
